"Pokémon Yellow" is a role-playing game developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo, first released in Japan on September 12, 1998. As a Generation I special edition, this entry is based on the "Pokémon" anime, featuring adjusted story elements and gameplay systems. The player's starter Pokémon is Pikachu, who follows behind the protagonist and refuses to enter a Poké Ball. Talking to Pikachu reveals its level of affection toward the player, foreshadowing the friendship system. Additionally, Pikachu refuses to evolve using a Thunder Stone and has a unique battle cry. In the storyline, the rival Blue chooses Eevee as his starter, with its evolution determined by the outcome of battles against the player. Players can also obtain Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle during the journey. Gym Leaders' teams are based on the anime with elevated levels, and players occasionally battle Team Rocket's Jessie, James, and Meowth in certain scenarios. This Traditional Chinese edition was updated by yishiluo on August 23, 2013, fixing various interaction errors and adjusting Pokémon, move, and item names to their official translations. With its unique systems and rich story, "Pokémon Yellow" offers an experience closely tied to the anime and remains a beloved classic among Pokémon fans.
