Final Fantasy is a landmark role-playing game developed and published by Square in 1987, the title that launched one of gaming's most iconic franchises. Set in a fantasy world governed by four elemental crystals, players control four Warriors of Light tasked with restoring the crystals' glow and saving the world. The game uses a turn-based battle system with six distinct classes—Fighter, Thief, Monk, Red Mage, White Mage, and Black Mage—each with unique skills and spells. As the adventure progresses, characters can change classes to unlock new abilities and gear. Players explore towns, dungeons, and varied terrain across a sprawling world map, completing quests, solving puzzles, and fighting monsters. A rich array of weapons, armor, and items can be purchased or discovered to strengthen the party. With its deep story, innovative systems, and lasting gameplay, Final Fantasy defined the JRPG genre and became an all-time classic.
