"Pokémon Yellow" (ポケットモンスター ピカチュウ) is a Game Boy title released by Nintendo in Japan on September 12, 1998. This Generation I special edition draws inspiration from the wildly popular anime series. Players take on the role of an eleven-year-old boy living in Pallet Town in the Kanto region, beginning his adventure with Pikachu as his starter partner. Unlike "Red," "Green," and "Blue," the player's starter is fixed as Pikachu, who follows behind the protagonist and displays various emotional reactions. The story follows the anime, allowing players to obtain Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle along the way, and to interact with Team Rocket members Jessie, James, and Meowth. The game also introduces a friendship system that influences Pikachu's battle performance and reactions to the protagonist.
