Pokémon Gold Version is a role-playing game developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy Color, released in Japan in November 1999 and later in North America and Europe in 2000. The second generation entry in the Pokémon series introduces 100 new Pokémon, bringing the total to 251 creatures to catch, train, and battle. Set in the Johto region, modeled after Japan's Kansai area, players embark on a journey to challenge Gym Leaders, the Elite Four, and the Champion while completing the Pokédex. A day-and-night cycle adds variety by affecting in-game events and the Pokémon that appear. After finishing the Johto adventure, players can travel to the Kanto region from the previous games for an even larger quest. Pokémon Gold's depth and innovation cemented it as a beloved classic of the series.
