NES / Famicom
The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), launched in Japan on July 15, 1983 as the Famicom, was a revolutionary 8-bit home console that single-handedly revived the North American video game market after the 1983 crash. Powered by a 1.79 MHz Ricoh 2A03 processor with 2KB RAM and a 5.37 MHz PPU, it offered colorful, immersive experiences. It sold 61.91 million units worldwide, with a library of over 1,000 games including Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, and Metroid. NES established enduring game conventions and the Nintendo Seal of Quality. Production continued until 1995 (NA) and 2003 (Japan).
