Flash Games

Adobe Flash became one of the most important platforms in gaming history, dominating browser-based games throughout the 2000s and sparking the indie game revolution. The 2000s were the golden age of Flash games, and by the end of the decade 99% of online computers ran Flash. Sites like Newgrounds (established 1999 with Pico's School), Armor Games, and Kongregate transformed into billion-dollar destinations attracting millions of users. In 2000, Newgrounds' Tom Fulp automated the submission process, enabling instant uploads and democratizing game development. Flash's accessibility attracted aspiring developers who created early versions of indie classics including Super Meat Boy, Bejeweled, VVVVVV, and Kingdom Rush.
