The Neo Geo Pocket Color is a 16-bit color handheld console developed by SNK, released in Japan on March 16, 1999, followed by North America on August 6, 1999, and Europe on October 1, 1999. The console launched in Japan with seven launch titles, featuring a 16-bit Toshiba TLCS-900H CPU running at 6.144 MHz and a dedicated Z80 coprocessor for sound processing. The handheld used a reflective color TFT screen, achieved impressive 40-hour battery life on just two AA batteries, and included basic PDA functions like clock, calendar, and horoscope. The Neo Geo Pocket Color achieved market penetration far beyond its monochrome predecessor, selling over 25,000 units in Japan by the end of 1999, over 100,000 in Europe, and capturing a 2% market share in North America by May 2000.
