WonderSwan / WonderSwan Color Games
Bandai WonderSwan / WonderSwan ColorThe WonderSwan Color is an upgraded handheld game console made by Bandai, released only in Japan on December 9, 2000 with a retail price of ¥6,900. Building on the original monochrome WonderSwan, the WonderSwan Color integrated a passive-matrix FSTN color screen while maintaining full backward compatibility with the entire WonderSwan game library. This allowed existing WonderSwan users to upgrade without losing access to their game collection. The console achieved modest success upon release, selling an impressive 270,632 units in its first month and reaching a peak 8% share of the Japanese handheld market. However, the arrival of Nintendo's Game Boy Advance in March 2001 severely eroded the WonderSwan Color's momentum. Before Bandai discontinued the WonderSwan line in 2003, the Color version sold approximately 1.1 million units.
